Margaret Henley - "A History Miscellany - 4 Stories Spanning 12 Centuries"

Monday August 18th

Margaret Henley was our speaker for the evening, with "A History Miscellany - 4 Stories Spanning 12 Centuries"
She had a wealth of knowledge of Polesworth, Tamworth, Nuneaton, Bosworth, Kingsbury, Curdworth and more. She talked to us about the possibility of Henry I's mistress being from the area and the battle with Richard III. Her final story was of the murder in Nuneaton in 1832 of Mary Green, known as Polly Button. Her throat had been cut possibly by the married man she had been seeing and got pregnant by for the second time!  A very interesting talk. We also had a fresh produce table - with home-grown tomatoes, green beans, marrows & home-made plum jam.
